I think you may be using an old version of ImageMagick. The current version
does not show the dithering artifacts and the image is a lighter blue.
Type "convert -version" and look at the first line or two of the output to see
what version you have.

I get the same result as glennrp using IM 6.7.5.10 Q16 Mac OSX Snow Leopard. No aliasing or zig-zag artifacts, but the blue is lighter.

Hey, I'm getting the same dithering as above, with a newer version of imagemagick:
6.7.6-8 2012-05-05 Q16
Features: OpenCL
(this is on OSX Lion)
Any ideas?

I am on 6.7.6.9beta Q16 Mac OSX Snow Leopard and there is no evidence of any odd pattern. Perhaps it is OpenCl or your version?
