Wondering if this is possible with IM.
Either stipple like WSJ

looks like that just uses a few textures?

Your first link doesn't show anything for me. You second link contains images similar to this:

I made that image with IM, with a fairly simple process that will be explained on one of my pages called "Lithographic effects" (not yet published).

I do not know if this is quite what you want, but I have a unix shell script called woodcut at the link below.
